At this point, I should just admit that this website is unintentionally morphing into a Rebecca Yarros fan page. I don’t know how it happened, but here we are—another Yarros novel, another emotional rollercoaster, and another excuse to stock up on tissues.
If you’ve read Fourth Wing or The Things We Leave Unfinished, you already know that Rebecca Yarros has a signature move: making you fall head over heels for her characters before mercilessly crushing your heart. In the Likely Event is no different. This second-chance, dual-timeline romance follows Izzy and Nate, two star-crossed lovers brought together (and torn apart) by fate, military duty, and life’s general refusal to play fair.
One thing Yarros always nails is chemistry, and oh boy, do Izzy and Nate have it. From their first meet-cute (or should I say meet-tragic?) to their stolen moments over the years, every interaction is dripping with tension, longing, and just the right amount of angst. You can practically hear Taylor Swift playing in the background as you read.
And let’s talk about the emotional damage—because, of course, there’s emotional damage. This book doesn’t just tug at your heartstrings; it grabs them in a chokehold. The pacing keeps you flipping pages at lightning speed, desperately trying to piece together what went wrong, why fate insists on being the worst, and whether Izzy and Nate will ever catch a break. Spoiler alert: not without some serious pain first.
Oh, and in case you missed it, In the Likely Event is officially getting the Netflix treatment. With Lindsey Ferrentino writing the script and production under Dylan Clark Productions, it’s only a matter of time before we get to see Izzy and Nate’s heartbreak play out on screen. No pressure, Netflix, but we expect greatness.
All in all, In the Likely Event is another win for Yarros fans. If you love emotional romance with military elements, gripping timelines, and enough angst to last a lifetime, this book delivers. Just make sure you have tissues nearby and a support group ready.
