I’ve watched every single Jurassic installment—some multiple times—and Rebirth definitely feels like the beginning of a new era rather than a continuation. Same universe, but new cast, new mission, new tone. Honestly? That might be what the franchise needed.
Gone are the days of Chris Pratt doing dramatic hand gestures at velociraptors while wisecracking his way through catastrophe. Not that I didn’t enjoy that vibe. It was fun! But this installment dials the goofiness way down. Rebirth has a more grounded feel, and it actually really works. The casting is strong, with characters that feel fresh instead of recycled archetypes. You can tell the creative team took a swing at making this a more serious reboot while still honoring the legacy.
But can we talk about Dolores? That tiny dino is everything. Whoever decided this movie needed a pint-sized, wide-eyed little dino with emotional range deserves a raise. She’s basically the Baby Yoda of the dinosaur world. Cute, expressive, capable of unhinged violence when necessary, and somehow the most emotionally complex creature in the whole movie. If she doesn’t get her own spin-off or plush toy line, someone seriously dropped the ball.
On the flip side: the D-Rex. I mean… what is that? We’ve seen some unholy hybrid creations in this franchise before, but this one takes the chaos cake. Giant, terrifying, and introduced with all the mystery of a Scooby-Doo villain. Except no one ever pulls off the mask. They just… never explain it. Why does it exist? I had so many questions and the movie offered zero answers. Like, I wasn’t expecting a documentary breakdown, but even one throwaway line would’ve helped.
Was it predictable? Sure. It’s a Jurassic movie. Dinosaurs escape. People run. Bad decisions get made. But it’s done in a way that still feels fun, and the tone shift toward tension and stakes (without diving into full horror) makes the ride more intense than some of the previous entries.
Who should watch it?
If you’re a fan of the franchise and open to something a little more grounded, you’ll probably like this. If you’re watching purely for the nostalgia or waiting for the OG characters to return, this might feel like a detour. But if you want solid casting, a storyline that resets the stakes, and one seriously adorable dinosaur, Rebirth delivers.
Final thought:
Jurassic World: Rebirth feels like the franchise finally putting on its grown-up pants. It’s still fun, still chaotic, but with fewer quips and a lot more grit. And did I mention Dolores? Because I’m ready to adopt her.
