What did I think?
Caught Up is pure chemistry on the page. It is sexy, a little chaotic, and full of the kind of characters you could watch banter for hours. This is book two in the Into Darkness series, but you could jump in here without reading Lights Out. Just know you might miss some backstory… and you will miss one of my favorite darker romances in recent years.

This time around, the spotlight is on Nico “Junior” Trocci and Lauren Marchetti. Once upon a time, they were high school acquaintances. Now, their lives could not look more different. Junior is neck-deep in the mafia life. Lauren is thriving as a cam model and co-owner of a kink club. They have not spoken in years until Junior stumbles across her online. From there, things escalate in that dangerous little space between curiosity and obsession.

Why I liked it
Lauren is fantastic. Confident, funny, strong-willed, and fully in control of her boundaries. Her work is handled with respect, and the story never tries to make her apologize for who she is or what she does. I wish every romance with a sex worker lead did it this well.

Junior is… intense. That morally gray energy is strong with him. He is the kind of guy who can sweep you off your feet and also make you think “should I maybe be running in the opposite direction right now?” The attraction between them is instant, but there is enough back-and-forth, enough teasing and testing, to make the tension feel earned.

Where it lost me a little
If you loved Lights Out for the darker edge, this one feels a little lighter. The stalker element? It is there, but not the dangerous, thrill-ride kind. The mafia plot? More of a flavor than a centerpiece. It works, but it is different, and I think some readers will feel that shift.

And as much as I enjoyed Lauren’s found family—her friends, her grandma—I wanted more of them. They are so fun and add such a warm counterbalance to the heat and angst. It felt like a missed opportunity to dig deeper there.

Who it’s for
If you love second-chance romance, morally gray heroes, heroines who completely own their power, and stories set in kink club worlds, this will probably hit the spot. It is sex-positive, unapologetic, and focused squarely on the relationship.

If you are expecting a crime-heavy mafia drama or a romance that keeps you up at night with suspense, this might not be it. But if you want something fast, steamy, and full of banter, you are in the right place.

Final thoughts
Caught Up knows exactly what it wants to be. It is not trying to juggle too many subplots or reinvent the wheel. It is here to give you two magnetic leads, a lot of heat, and a romance that feels like it could only belong to them. I had fun reading it. Would I have liked a little more danger or emotional depth? Sure. But sometimes you just want the sparks, and this delivers them.

So if you are in the mood for a hot, character-focused romance that treats its heroine with the respect she deserves, grab it. And maybe clear your schedule, because you might not put it down once you start.
