“Last Breath” (2025): A Tense and Immersive Survival Story That Deserves More Attention

If you haven’t seen Last Breath yet, let me just say — you’re missing out. This movie completely pulled me in, and despite knowing the true story it’s based on, I found myself glued to the screen from start to finish. Directed by Alex Parkinson and starring Finn Cole, Woody Harrelson, and Simu Liu, Last Breath tells the incredible true story of diver Chris Lemons, who found himself stranded 330 feet below the surface with almost no oxygen and no way to communicate. Even if you know how the story ends, this movie will have you holding your breath.

One of the things I appreciated most was how immersive the film felt. Recognizable actors can sometimes pull me out of a story, but that wasn’t the case here. The performances felt natural, and the tension was so well-built that I was fully invested the entire time. I genuinely felt like I was right there with the divers, rooting for everyone involved.

A huge part of the movie takes place underwater, but instead of relying on dim lighting or murky visuals as a shortcut, the filmmakers maintained a strong sense of realism and detail. The underwater sequences felt meticulously crafted — no corners cut — and the result was both stunning and claustrophobic in the best way possible.

What surprised me most was how engaging the movie remained, even though I already knew the outcome. The suspense didn’t suffer one bit. The film dives (literally!) into the complexities of deep-sea diving with remarkable detail, showing everything from the equipment checks to the intense precision required just to get divers safely into the water. It added a whole new layer of respect for the dangers these professionals face.

For a movie this strong, I’m surprised I haven’t heard more buzz. It’s a gripping, well-made film that deserves far more attention. Whether you’re a fan of survival thrillers or just love a powerful true story, Last Breath is absolutely worth your time.

Right now, Last Breath is only available in theaters, but since Focus Features is distributing it, it’s expected to land on Peacock around mid-April 2025. Mark your calendar because this is one you won’t want to miss.

Have you seen Last Breath yet? If so, let me know what you thought — I’d love to hear if it had you on the edge of your seat like it did for me!
