I feel like we may be moving ourselves out of the early in the year slump and we’ve got some great new releases this weekend. Of course, for lots of areas this is a great time to spend outside pulling us away from those TVs and theaters for a bit. All of that to say, hope you dive into something great this weekend. Please share with us!

MOVIES

Sinners
Michael B. Jordan stars as twin brothers who return to their hometown, only to confront a supernatural evil. Directed by Ryan Coogler, this film blends psychological horror with family drama.

The Wedding Banquet

TELEVISION

The Rehearsal – Season 2 (HBO, April 20)
Nathan Fielder returns with the second season of his docu-comedy series, The Rehearsal. This season shifts focus from personal dilemmas to the critical topic of aviation safety. Inspired by real-life cockpit communication failures, Fielder explores how inadequate interaction between captains and first officers can lead to fatal crashes. In his characteristically surreal and elaborate fashion, he stages simulations, builds sets like a flight simulator and a mock congressional hearing room, and involves real pilots to enhance authenticity. Beneath its humor and absurdity, the show acts as an allegory for societal dynamics—how fear inhibits people from challenging authority, whether in aviation or in broader civilization .

Étoile (Prime Video)
From the creators of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, this series delves into the world of ballet, following two renowned companies in Paris and New York as they exchange their top dancers in a bid to revitalize their institutions.

Secrets of the Penguins (Disney+)
Narrated by Blake Lively, this documentary explores the resilience and adaptability of penguins in the face of climate change.
