This Weekend’s Picks – January 25

After a long 3-day weekend, the idea of a regular two-day weekend feels a bit disappointing. But I’ll take it! No major plans this weekend. My main goals: stay warm and bond with my couch.

Here’s what I’ll be diving into. Stay tuned for upcoming reviews. Let me know in the comments or over on Bluesky what you’ll be enjoying this weekend!

Movies

  • September 5 – after a bit of back and forth on when this would see a wider release, it’s finally in a theater near me!
  • Wolf Man – I know this hasn’t gotten the greatest reviews (currently sitting at 57% on Rotten Tomatoes) but I will see it if only out of protest that Julia Garner should be cast in better films!
  • Presence – To be honest, I don’t know a ton about this one aside from the unique point of view from which it’s shot. Unless I hear it’s awful, and maybe even if it is, might get out to see this one too.

Television

  • Severence (Season 2, Episode 2) – First of all, if you haven’t watched Severence season 1 yet, cancel all of your plans because that’s now what you’re doing. Last week’s season 2 premier was not as fast-paced as the previous season’s finale, but still set up what is sure to be another incredible season.

Books

  • Holly by Stephen King – I love Stephen King and for a while read his newest releases pretty much right as they came out. Not sure when or why that stopped being the case, but currently about 25% through this one and genuinely enjoying it.
  • Daisy Darker by Alice Feeney – I got lucky and this one randomly popped up as available through my local public library so I jumped on it. As of this morning, I’m about 40% through it and while there are heavy nods to Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None it’s unique in it’s modernized voice. Available on Kindle Unlimited.
